Aromatic penta-linked hydrocarbons in soot nanoparticle formation

نویسندگان

چکیده

A new crosslinking reaction between two pentagonal rings around the periphery of planar pericondensed aromatic molecules is proposed and its impact on soot nanoparticle formation explored. The mechanism was computed, using density functional theory, an aryl-type σ-radical a rim-based ring attacking another ring. hydrogen migration allowed for double bond forming penta-linked hydrocarbon (APLH) complex, recently experimentally observed. clustering this species compared with polyaromatic (PCAH) aryl-linked (AALH) molecular dynamics metadynamics. Similar found investigated structure similar mass indicating enhanced physical interactions after crosslink. Finally, further crosslink possible unsaturated sites rim-linked (ARLH) complex considerable stability. This confirmed by simulating stable such on-the-fly quantum forces from semi-empirical method, revealing reactions under flame conditions that might play role in nucleation.

Environmental aging of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons on soot and its effect on source identification.

Soot-associated PAHs were exposed to simulated sunlight to investigate disappearance rates under environmental aging conditions and to examine the robustness of diagnostic ratios for PAH source apportionment. Naphthalene, acenaphthylene, acenaphthene, and fluorene showed an obvious two-phase disappearance in all experiments while phenanthrene and anthracene exhibited this behavior for all but t...

Mutagenicity of soot and associated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons to Salmonella typhimurium.

The mutagenic activity of the polycyclic aromatic hydrocar bon-containing fraction of several soot samples was measured in Salmonella typhimurium, using resistance to the purine analog 8-azaguanine as a genetic marker. A postmitochondrial supernatant derived from livers of phénobarbitaland/or Aroclor-pretreated male Sprague-Dawley rats was incorporated into all assays to allow metabolism of pr...

Thermal Formation of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons from Cyclopentadiene (CPD)

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon growth from cyclopentadiene (CPD) pyrolysis was investigated using a laminar flow reactor operating in a temperature range of 600 to 950°C. Major products from CPD pyrolysis are benzene, indene and naphthalene. Formation of observed products from CPD is explained as follows. Addition of the cyclopentadienyl radical to a CPD π-bond produces a resonance-stabilized ...

Biodegradation of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) in Petroleum Contaminated Soils

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are a class of potentially hazardous chemicals of environmental and health concern. PAHs are one of the most prevalent groups of contaminants found in soil. Biodegradation of complex hydrocarbon usually requires the cooperation of more than single specie. In this research biotreatment of PAH (phenanthrene) was studied in a solid-phase reactor using indigenou...
